Website Update & Winner of my first Give-a-way!

Website Update: As of Monday, MakeupByLaurenP.com will be temporarily down for maintenance.  This is because I hired a group of great professionals to turn my blog into a full fledged beauty website!  I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am for this.  I was told by the company that I am working with that the whole process will only take about 3-4 days, and during this time, they will put up a "splash page" on MakeupByLaurenP.com.  This means that if you log onto this website while it is being created, you might see a message like "This site is down for maintenance, but check back soon for the new and improved MakeupByLaurenP.com"  The company should also be putting a countdown of when the new website will be completed as well.  Do not fret, I am not going anywhere, and the url to my website will remain the same (http://www.makeupbylaurenp.com).  Just keep an eye out this coming week, for the new website!

Real Quick Update!

I just wanted to let you know why I have been so m.i.a....
This Monday, I began my Winter session of my graduate studies...and it ends a little over a week from now!  So this weekend marks the mid-point of my winter semester.  This means that I am doing all of the work for both of my classes this weekend!  It's been kind of hard juggling being with my students during the day and then getting out of night classes at 10 P.M. almost everyday, but I am handling it!  Do not fear, I will be back in action before you know it!  I have a contest in the works right now, and I haven't decided if it will be mainly for you tube, or blogger--or both...but keep an eye out for it because it's going to be awesome!  Okay, I am now getting back to work! Love ya and thanks for keeping up with me!

PS: I received the Twilight Series Box Set in Hardcover and already completed reading "Twilight"! I am in love with it! It's true what they say: SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE MOVIE! Of course the movie is still amazing, but their is much more amazing details that could never be fit into a two hour movie!  After I am done with this book, I am beginning New Moon!  I have until June to be done reading Eclipse before that movie comes out! I can't wait!
xoxo, MakeupByLaurenP

Update: mark. Preview & another gig!

Today is a busy day for me!  First, I got up early to pack my makeup bag for another gig I have tonight.  I am going to be doing my friend Shervon's makeup for her 25th birthday!  After I packed the bag, I was about to leave the house when a big mark. order came in!  I had to then stop and try on the dresses I bought, and I must say that I am in loooove them!  After that, I ran to get my hair cut, and make a last min. errand before I came back to finish getting ready.  I just filmed this quick update for you guys, then I am leaving for the makeup gig!  Hopefully when I finish doing Shervon's makeup, I will make it back in time to meet up with my parents and Enrique for a little get together in my building.  Manana? Doing my last assignment for the semester! It's due Tuesday! Wish me luck!  Good luck to any of you guys who have final papers or projects!

Until then,

I went for the BIG Chop!

Today I went to my hair dresser and finally mustered up the courage to do what I have been longing to do for a long time: get a short hair cut!  My hair dresser Jennifer and her mother Yolanda (owner of the salon), will be the first to admit that I have extreme anxiety when it comes to cutting my hair.  I am totally my own worst enemy when it comes to this.  In the past, every time I came into the salon and mentioned that I wanted to cut my hair, the mother-daughter duo would react by trying to convince me to take the plunge and have the "big chop" done right then and their, or they would just say that they didn't believe I would get it done!

The real source of my anxiety to chopping my hair stems from the fact that both my father and my boyfriend love my long hair and have always voiced their opposition towards me cutting my hair short!  Even as I look at them laughing many times as they pester me, I know that deep down inside--for two different reasons), my father and boyfriend probably don't ever want me to cut my hair short.  I believe my father associates my long hair to the good ole' days when I was young and I was his "baby".  My boyfriend on the other hand has just always been a fan of long hair and use to think that by me cutting my hair shorter, I would some how be erasing a little femininity from myself.  Boy was he ever wrong!

I asked my hair dresser some questions while drinking a cold sangria.  I told her about some "hair myths" that I have read in magazines, and I asked for her input on it.  She also explained the cut she gave me, why it is the "best cut for me", and how to maintain it and properly blow dry it.

The type of cut I asked for was something significantly shorter, but easy to manage.  I told Jen that I am working with kids all day in a school as well as taking evening graduate courses, so I stressed the need for a hair cut that would be easy to maintain.  I also mentioned to Jen that I am in DIRE need of a CHANGE! I knew it was NOW OR NEVER!  Jen cut my hair to my collarbone, which she said is a great length and very versatile to be styled many different ways.  By having hair cut at the color bone, it can give some one a sexy, and funky look!  She also cut many different layers into my hair.  She did so because having layers will actually make it easier for me to style my hair in the morning because of the type of texture that I have.  She also showed me how to properly blow out this type of hair cut.  She flipped my hair in front my face, and blew separate sections in this direction.  By doing so, this is not only adding volume to the hair, and keeps this style modern and fresh, instead of matronly.

These are some examples of celebrity hair styles that have their hair cut at the collarbone (The "Collar-bob" Cut!):
 Anna Sophia Robb

Jessica Biel

And after!

The verdict?  My father absolutely loves it (and realizes that I will always be his "baby" no matter what age I am), and my boyfriend thinks it is probably the best decision that I have ever made pertaining to my hair.  My mother always supported my decision to do this because she rocks a short hair cut herself and understands the versatility and options it can give a woman.

Let me know what you think! And are in the same boat as I was? Wanting to go for the big chop, but really nervous? Post your feelings below! My advice--go for it! It's just hair, and it will grow back! Have fun with it, and you will not regret it!

Updates: New Channel + Possible blog sale & contest = New Beginnings!

For the sake of keeping everything under the "Makeup By Lauren P" name, I have created a new You Tube channel, appropriately named http://www.youtube.com/makeupbylaurenp

I'll admit I was a little apprehensive at first, being that I have worked so passionately towards what I have created on my current you tube page (http://www.youtube.com/LAURENN0XO), and I did not want to just delete all of the memories, and friends that I have made on that channel!

But I have created a video telling people that I will be moving to Makeup By Lauren P, and I hope to see all of my friends follow me to this new channel before I delete LAURENN0XO for GOOD!

Don't fret, if there are videos of mine from LAURENN0XO that you enjoyed, you will most likey find them at the new channel.  I am uploading old videos as we speak, and I will organize them appropriatley in playlists so that you will know which ones are old videos, and which ones are newer.

I also plan on selling some of my things (DVD sets, makeup bags, accessories, etc) and will post a video about that sometime soon.

I also plan on throwing another contest, for my new channel!  So I hope to see you on my new & improved page, MakeupByLaurenP!
